Guatemalan design studio Cinco x Cinco utilized a blend of present-day and artisanal approaches for its 3rd collection of home furnishings, The Sum of Little Elements, which gained the highest honour at Style and design 7 days Mexico 2022.

Conceptualised for the duration of the Covid-19 lockdowns, The Sum of Compact Components contains a chandelier, bar cart and chair.

Cinco x Cinco received the Inédito Award, the top rated prize at the yearly furniture showcase Inédito at Design 7 days Mexico, for the three home furniture pieces.

The Sum of Small Components chandelier is made from a series of curved chrome bars that terminate in a small bulb. From the chrome bars hold “pendant charms” created from Chinautla clay, a Guatemalan solution made by artisans “dwelling in a ravine, isolated from industrial production”, the studio said.

The bar cart features far more curved chrome with 3 trays manufactured from conacaste wooden, indigenous to northern Guatemala,  though the chair functions a basic skeleton composed of semi-circular bars clad with cotton fibres.

Cinco x Cinco involves 5 designers from unique disciplines, together with anthropology, architecture and visual artwork.
